Welcome to Kindergarten!
It’s going to be a great year full of learning and fun! My name is Mrs. Squires and I’m the kindergarten reading specialist at Walsh School. This year I celebrated 25 years in District 92 and what a blessing it's been! Before becoming a reading teacher, I taught kindergarten for nine years here at Walsh. In 2009 I completed my graduate program and stepped into the reading specialist role for kindergarten. I look forward to supporting our kindergartners' literacy skills through our Title I reading support program. Children grow and learn at different rates and in different ways and one of my passions in life is supporting and encouraging students as they learn to read and write. I look forward to meeting and working with your kindergartners this year!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
The Power of "Yet"
There are so many exciting things to learn in kindergarten; I can’t wait to get started! However, sometimes, learning new things can be hard and we start to think, “I give up. I can’t do this.” When those moments occur, remind your child that learning new things may be difficult sometimes, but if we keep practicing and don’t give up, we’ll begin to grow and move toward our goal! Our thinking begins to changes to, “I can’t do this...YET!” With perseverance, practice and learning from our mistakes, we’ll grow and be able to do more than we ever imagined! We’re going to try and maybe even fail along the way, but failure is part of the journey to success! Mistakes bring opportunities for learning, trying again and persistence as we travel down the road to becoming a lifelong learner!
